Homework

Both year groups have homework which is set every Friday and is to be completed by the following Wednesday. Both year groups will be given 15 spellings to learn and then a test will be given on a Friday. In Year 5, English and Maths homework will alternate initially, with some work to be completed online using Education City. In Year 6, English and Maths homework will be given out weekly and will range from writing activities (including punctuation and grammar tasks) to reading comprehensions. Every child in KS2 is expected to read regularly at home. We encourage the children to consider this homework too. On Friday, Reading Records will be collected by teachers and marked. Each child is expected to have written at least 5 comments a week. We would love to see comments from parents too - even in Year 6!

Homework not completed and handed in on a Wednesday will result in children attending Homework Club on a Wednesday lunch time with Mrs Remington Davidson. Homework can be finished off in Homework Club, though this needs discussing with class teachers before Wednesday.

PE

Each class will receive two PE lessons a week. One will be indoors (dance, gymnastics and problem solving) and one outside (ball games, racquet and striking activities and athletics). We also swim in the Summer term during our outdoor PE lesson.

All children are expected to have the correct PE kit for the activities they are doing. This includes appropriate PE kit for the weather conditions. We encourage the children to bring in their PE kits every day in case a PE slot needs to change. A list of the appropriate PE kit can be obtained from the School office and on our website.

Please remember that children cannot take part in PE with earrings. We suggest that on PE days all earrings are removed prior to coming to school unless children can remove them on their own; if they are unable to remove earrings themselves, they will not be able to take part in PE.

Parent Helpers

We welcome all parent helpers who are able to come in and help. Regular reading is a big part of helping children to succeed and we would love for you to volunteer and support us in this goal. We also have trips and activities in school which require additional support and supervision. Parent helpers are a valuable part of allowing us to deliver a varied and inspirational curriculum to their children. If you are interested in helping in please speak to a class teacher.
