Phonics

Children are taught phonics using Letters and Sounds. More information about this progressive scheme can be found at www.foundationyears.org.uk.

Pupil attainment and progress through the phonic stages is recorded at the end of each year in Key Stage 1 (and for children who still need phonics input in Key Stage 2).

In 2016 89% of Year 1 pupils met the expected standard for phonics screening check (7% above national average).

In 2016, 92% pupils left reception at Phase 3 phonics or above. 39% were working within Phase 4. In Year 1, 92% of pupils achieved phase 5+ (3% improvement on 2015) whilst the remaining 8% achieved phase 3 or 4. In Year 2 75% achieved phase 6 (+12% on 2015 results), 25% achieved phase 5.
